Genetic Counseling

An estimated 5 to 10 percent of cancer diagnoses are due to an inherited form of cancer (American Cancer Society. Cancer Facts and Figures 2009. Atlanta: American Cancer Society, 2009). This means that 5 to 10 percent of people who receive a cancer diagnosis inherited a genetic change that caused them to have a higher likelihood of developing the disease.

At Parker Adventist Hospital we recognize the importance of genetic counseling to identify hereditary cancer syndromes in prevention and early diagnosis of cancer. Genetic counseling for inherited cancer conditions is provided through the Hereditary Cancer Clinic (HCC) at  Parker Adventist Hospital. Genetic counseling can be provided to both individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and individuals who have not had cancer, but have a family history of the disease.
