Who are Adventists?

A Bible-based denomination, Seventh-day Adventism is the seventh largest denomination in the world with more than 14 million members worldwide. The church was organized in the early 1860s by Christians from various faiths who had a strong commitment to serving their communities through health care. From that early vision has emerged one of the world's largest faith-based health care systems.

In keeping with their vision of improving the quality of life for those they serve, Adventists place a high value on providing relief to the poor and distressed. Through ADRA, their worldwide relief agency, their serve people around the globe in times of disaster.

A focus on education has also been central to their vision, which has culminated in the operation of more than 5,600 schools. These range from elementary schools through universities, and include Loma Linda University, the internationally recognized center for medical training and research.
