If an Accident Occurs!
A fall from a horse is a serious accident! Dr. Chris Winter at Parker Adventist Hospital ER advises the following in the case of a fall or kicking injury.
- CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY IF A RIDER LOSES CONSCIOUSNESS, IS DIZZY, CAN'T MOVE OR HAS SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY AFTER FALLING FROM A HORSE OR BEING KICKED!
- If a serious accident occurs, keep the injured person still and in a position of comfort, away from any other harm such as other horses, rocks, ledges, etc. until help arrives.
- Brain damage or internal injury may not always be obvious. If you or a riding companion, experience any of the following immediate or delayed symptoms after an accident, seek medical attention right away: significant abdominal pain, shortness of breath, racing heart, dizziness, unusual sleepiness, unexplained nausea and/or vomiting.
