My robotic Gallbladder surgery performed by at Parker Adventist Hospital went like clockwork! After being swiftly admitted and diagnosed within an hour, my options for avoiding a future pancreatitis attack were explained to me in detail. The choice of robotics over laparoscopic removal was made simple by the incredible skill, reputation and experience level of my surgeon and surrounding staff. Everything in my experience went as advertised. I was out of the hospital the next day, took a couple of Ibuprofens for the pain and felt good enough to walk about the house. Three days later I drove to work to complete medical leave paperwork. I returned to full duty with no restrictions two weeks after surgery. The nearly invisible 1/4 inch mark on my lower belly button is the only evidence of what an incredible advancement the robotic surgery is in the right hands at the right hospital.

something human-looking, with a head and body, arms and legs. We also
tend to think of a machine that operates independently.

The robotic arms of the daVinci system are
attached to a base unit at one end. On the other end of these robotic
arms, various tools can be attached, including:
All of these tools fit through tiny
incisions made in a patient's body, and the robot’s base is wired to the
surgeon's nearby computer console.
Once a patient is fully prepped in the
operating room — with small incisions made, and robotic instruments in
place, the surgeon moves to the console.
The surgeon's hands move the controllers, which manipulate the instruments inside the patient’s body .
This approach means our surgeons can perform
delicate, complex operations without the trauma of large incisions – a
tremendous benefit for our patients.
During surgery, an anesthesiologist remains
near the patient’s head at all times. Also surrounding the patient are a
surgical assistant and surgical nurses. Everyone on our robotic surgery
teams is specially trained and highly experienced.
After surgery, patients are cared for in the
recovery room, also known as the PACU and if the surgery requires an
overnight stay, by inpatient nurses who are also highly experienced in
caring for patients who have undergone robotic surgery.
