    Family and Individual Counseling:

A cancer diagnosis can be one of the most difficult challenges one faces.  Individual counseling is provided free of charge to patients, family members and their caregivers in order to reduce the impact and burden of cancer.  The focus is to minimize stressors such as worry and anxiety, depression, financial concerns, transportation, work and social issues and spiritual needs.   Also available are support groups that are educational and supportive where individuals can discuss concerns with other patients.  For further questions regarding services please contact Linda Mitchell LPC, RN at 303-778-2583 or LindaMitchell@centura.org.

    Genetic Counseling:

The genetic counselor provides genetic counseling to patients and families interested in learning more about the genetic causes of cancer.  Information is provided on the inheritance and implications of hereditary forms of cancer and a risk assessment is performed based on a patient’s personal and family history.  The genetic counselor will discuss genetic testing and cancer screening options for patients and their family members as well as coordinate any genetic testing a patient decides to pursue.  Results and their implications for follow-up and treatment options are also reviewed and information about community resources is provided.  Discuss a referral with your physician or call 303-269-4975 to schedule an appointment.

    Lymphedema Therapy:

Lymphedema is swelling that occurs in one part of the body, usually in an arm or leg; however, it can also be present in the trunk, abdomen, or head and neck.  Lymphedema can occur as a result of cancer treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, or infection.  At the Parker Adventist Center for Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine, we understand how debilitating lymphedema can be to a person’s life.  Our certified lymphatic therapists can help control and improve the symptoms of lymphedema through Complete Decongestive Therapy.  Discuss a referral with your physician or call 303-269-4590 to schedule an appointment.

    Massage Therapy:

As part of your multidisciplinary care team, we develop individualized strategies for best practices in massage that consider your unique condition, needs and circumstances.  We then utilize the most appropriate touch-therapy interventions to assist you in achieving a greater sense of wellbeing; while providing benefits to ease symptoms of treatment allowing your body to rally its healing capabilities.  We maintain a team of highly skilled and qualified Licensed Medical Massage Therapists committed to each patient’s recovery and welling being.  Each of our therapists are licensed and board certified through the appropriate state registry and have been credentialed throughout your hospital system. They have met requirements for advanced specialized massage training, ensuring the design of effective and appropriate care plans for you.

To schedule your FREE massage, contact Cancer Center Scheduling at 303-269-4975.

    Nurse Navigator:

The patient navigator will meet with you and your family by appointment free of charge. She will provide education regarding your cancer, financial resources, support groups, wigs, hats and any other local and national resources that you may need. She will also provide basic counseling for each patient and their family if needed. Further counseling will be deferred to professional counselors.  To ask a question or schedule an appointment, please leave a detailed message at 303-269-4155.  The nurse navigator will call you back as soon as possible.

    Nutrition/Registered Dietitian:

The RD will assess your individual nutritional status & help you create an individualized nutrition plan that can be easily built-in to your life. Nutrition recommendations are based on your type of cancer, medical history, personal preferences, treatment plan, and the presence of side effects.  Discuss a referral with your physician or call 303-269-4806.

    Physical Therapy

At Parker Adventist Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, we understand how treatments for cancer can affect all aspects of a person’s life.  Receiving comprehensive rehabilitation during and after cancer treatment can make a tremendous difference in recovery.  You will meet with a specially trained therapist to learn exercises and stretches that will help your range of motion, strength, fatigue, and energy levels.  Each home program will be tailored specifically to your personal needs.  Discuss a referral with your physician, or call 303-269-4590 to schedule an appointment.

    Supportive and Palliative care:

Supportive and Palliative care offers coordinated care to address a patient’s physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs and help them cope with the pain, anxiety and other symptoms that come with health changes. This care may be provided along with any phase of medical treatment, such as chemotherapy and radiation. Supportive and Palliative care also helps patients and families identify goals of care, providing guidance for difficult treatment choices and assist with advance care planning. Discuss a referral with your physician or call 303-269-4696 to schedule an appointment.

    Yoga for Cancer Recovery:

The yoga teacher/yoga therapist will guide you through a weekly 60-minute yoga class focused on breath-mediated movement and appropriate, supportive adaptations of gentle yoga postures. These classes are specifically designed to increase mobility and flexibility, support pain management and lymphedema prevention while improving strength and overall fitness. Classes will be offered weekly on Thursdays, 4:00pm to 5:00pm at Parker Adventist Hospital in the Conference Center.  This class is free, no reservation is required, and a guest is welcome to participate as well.
